Abstract

Voriconazole use has increased since and drug's introduction in 2002, and newly and unique adverse belongings are incipient as patients undergo prolonged therapies. Highest concerning are the increased risk of cutaneous malignancies, primarily squamous cell carcinoma (SCC); this risk is duration dependent and the belonging malignities tend to be additional aggressive and multifocal. Voriconazole is also associates with phototoxicity (which may be a precursor to malignancy), periostitis, hallucinations and encephalopathy, peripheral neuropathy, alopecia, nail changes, hyponatremia, and other adversarial effects. Some toxicities (neuropsychiatric and gastrointestinal including hepatic) have been in clear association with supratherapeutic serum voriconazole levels; thus, careful monitoring of voriconazole levels remains a critical component of safe drug use. Guidelines in screening for adverse effect after long-term voriconazole use may be beneficial and need go be instituted.
